Welcome to Year 5 - Renoir Class

Year 5

Class Flyer

May 2023

Later in June, children in Years 4 and 5 are going to the Essex Food and Farming Day at Writtle College. As part of the preparations, we have been asked to enter a competition to create a scarecrow with a Royal Coronation theme. The children have worked as one enormous class to design a scarecrow and then create it out of a range of recyclable materials. We had a fantastic day working in groups to create our finished Royal Scarecrow, complete with all commonwealth flags, a shovel sceptre, an orb teapot, the Red Arrows display team and a Corgi!

31st March 2023

Our final tree houses.

15th March 2023

Year 5 had great fun going nose to nose with the animals at Mell Farm.

1st March 2023

We visited Colchester Zoo to find out more about the Rainforest and what threatens it.

Rainforests are amazing, but they are in danger

The session started with an introduction to the features of the rainforest, its plants, animals and climate. The location of the major rainforests were examined with reference to country and continent names. Amazing, and unique animals living there were discussed including the use of biofacts to highlight their adaptations.

Threats to the rainforests, with specific threats to rainforest animals – the pet trade and hunting for clothing, souvenirs and medicine. We then had the opportunity to get up close to real confiscated items from this wildlife trade. Next, habitat loss as a threat to the entire rainforest was explored. The session ended with explanations of what we can do the help the rainforest and counteract these threats.

27th January 2023

We visited Tollesbury Rec to conduct a litter pick.

9th December 2022

As part of out topic work we designed and made Maya clay necklaces

14th September 2022
